Lake Kivu Adventures
This tour begins at Nyamyumba Hot Springs (Amashyuza) in Rubavu. After enjoying the hot springs and a refreshing swim, our knowledgeable guides and boat captains will make your journey unforgettable. They’ll share insights and point out fascinating sights along the way as you travel across the water.
This tour offers a chance to relax by the lakeshore with a book, enjoy the sunset, and take in stunning views of Lake Kivu, the surrounding mountains, and islands. You’ll see local fishing boats and experience community-based tours, such as coffee tours that follow the process from crop to cup, craft workshops, and beekeeping (including honey processing)—all of which provide a glimpse into rural life.
We can also stop upon request for a short hike along the lakeshore. Some trips may include visits to multiple islands, like Peace Island and Nyamunini Island, known as Napoleon Island for its resemblance to Napoleon’s hat. On Napoleon Island, you’ll have the chance to spot velvet monkeys, hike to the summit for panoramic views, observe a lively colony of fruit bats roosting in the trees, and enjoy birdwatching with breathtaking views of Lake Kivu.
